This year, for the first time in quite a while, I've decided to take the Inktober challenge, but I've twisted the rules a little bit. The original challenge was created by an American illustrator, Jake Parker, who wanted to improve his inking skills by inking an illustration everyday in October. Along the years, more and more illustrators joined him to the point that it became an institution, especially on social networks like Instagram, where artists share their work and encourage each other during this month-long challenge.
As I went through a long post-pandemic period during which I had a hard time drawing and finding creative inspiration, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get my foot back on the ladder and start drawing again. Nothing is better than peer pressure to find motivation to do things again ! To ease the challenge and add some more fun to it, I thought it would be a good idea to choose my own drawing prompts rather than following the official ones, and just to draw as often as possible rather than forcing myself to make one illustration per day and taking a risk to fail completing the entire challenge very quickly. The theme I chose was "Movies from the 1980s" and it was a blast to do.
So I ended up drawing 17 illustrations this October, a total I'm happy with because it's at least 14 more than all my previous attempts to complete this challenge. I published them on my Instagram account and asked my friends to guess what movies I was illustrating before revealing the titles. Most of the movies were guessed so I'm assuming my drawings were not too bad. Here they are and it's now your turn to play the game !
