About me

Candy Gets Handy
Hello, I'm Candy Fair, a French comic artist, illustrator and web developer living in Paris with my partner, my son and my cat!

Who is Candy?

Candy Fair is my creative alter ego, my real name is Candice. Sometimes my hair is red, sometimes it's blue, and sometimes it's even green, like my favourite colour!

I have been drawing since I could hold a pen, but I really started drawing comics these last 10 years, as I really enjoy this medium for telling stories. I have been mostly focusing on short comics, but I am currently working on scenarios for 2 longer stories, one inspired by my teenage years in the 1990s - yes I'm THAT old - and another one about my parents' encounter in the late 1970s, after my father had to leave Vietnam because of the war and had restarted his life in France.

My comics are not the only stories I tell, though. In 2014 I've also written a science-fiction novel, Antagorria, that you can read entirely for free on Wattpad - it's written in French. I was very happy to have won a writing contest with this story, and I am currently looking for an editor.

How is Candy handy?

I am really into crafts and I love keeping myself busy by making things with my hands. I've been working with metal clays (bronze and silver, mostly) for years, creating either pieces of jewellery or tiny decorative figurines.

I also enjoy knitting a lot. The latest bee in my bonnet has been to knit little frogs with their tiny jumpers - because I love frogs -  and I have made so many of them that I am now selling them in my shop because my shelves can't hold them anymore.

I'm always a sucker for new techniques and mediums though, so as long as it's fun and creative, and I can use my hands on it, expect a big bunch of articles talking about anything and everything in the Crafts category!

What about coding?

What I really like about programming is that it can be used as another creative tool to make my ideas become a reality. It's such a great satisfaction to doodle about a concept on a piece of paper, then draft some user interface in my sketchbook, give it a polished design in a professional software and then spend a few days, weeks or months to make it a reality by writing all the required code and deploying the application on the web!

I am also a huge fan of the never-ending learning curve, as learning new things is one of my greatest joys in life.

About this site

Candy Gets Handy is an independent publication launched in September 2022 by me. I have started this blog to write about the creative projects I'm working on and share my thoughts and latest comics here, because I'm tired of social networks and their capricious algorithms.

If you subscribe today, you'll get full access to the website as well as a monthly email newsletters about new content when it's available. Your subscription makes this site possible, and allows Candy Gets Handy to continue to exist.

Thank you!
